Refurbished tech can be a great way to save money, and the planet, since keeping tech in circulation for longer keeps it out of landfill and reduces the need for newer devices to be made. How much can I save on a refurbished phone? Unsurprisingly, O2 does not accept stolen or barred phones, or any with fake software installed. If so, it must be the same make and model or better. The only exception is if you’ve had a replacement phone provided by an insurance claim. You then start a new Plus Plan or Custom Plan with a new phone of your choice, or you can pick from one of O2's refurbished 'as new' stock.īe aware you can only switch the phone you originally bought as part of your Plus Plan or Custom Plan. This means you don’t need to pay the rest of it off. With Switch Up, you can take your phone to an O2 store, they will check its condition, then send the phone to be refurbished and settle your current plan. The perk is automatically included with a Plus Plan at no extra cost, or can be added to a Custom Plan as a Bolt On if you pay an extra £3.99 a month. O2 Switch Up lets you swap your current phone for a new one whenever you like, as many times as you like, as long as it’s in good condition. Want to see if O2 is a good option? Read our guide to the best and worst mobile networks to find out the top performing providers, and which brands to avoid. So what's the catch? We dig a bit deeper to find out what you need to know about O2 Switch Up. It's an interesting proposition, and one that looks to bolster O2's own refurbished phones offering, with customers able to opt to save on a refurb model, as well as 'swapped' phones getting checked over and sold as refurbished by O2 itself. Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "Taking a closer look at the data, you can see rain spilling in from the southwest, spreading across much of central southern England and also Wales. Waves in Cornwall and south Devon were forecast to reach up to 10ft in some areas, which is certainly beyond beginner-level for surfers. Surfers in the South West are also being given some good news with excellent surf conditions. London and the South West could hit a balmy 7C by 11am, and the temperature is expected to rise to about 10C as the day progresses. The south of England will be waking up to slightly warmer temperatures, however. The Met Office have warned that a southern breeze from the Arctic will push a frozen band of snow and frost into Britain which could result in Scotland and some northern parts of England facing spells of snowfall throughout the morning, peaking at about 9am.Īt the same time, a heavy band of rainfall is forecast to sweep across southern and central England from west to east. Forecasters have predicted warmer weather for the South West of England today and over the next few days - while those in the north are still at risk of snow.

Undoubtedly, the most exciting news in Butterfly bush news has to be the introduction of a new series of miniature plants called Lo & Behold. Blue Chip is the first of a trademarked series of plants called Lo and Behold. The aromatic flowers bloom from midsummer until frost and, as the name implies, attract butterflies. Again, this change in function only applies to the built-in Screen Sharing function in the Mac OS if you use RealVNC, it works the same in any version of OS X. It's kind of cool you can do that, but it's not helpful if you want to provide remote support or tutoring. If you use a different account, you will be controlling the computer in a separate desktop session (without affecting the currently logged-in user's session). If you log in with the same account as the person logged in already, you will both see the same screen, but this means the user will have to give you his password. But, as of Mac OS X Lion, you also have to log in using an account on the target Mac computer (even after you already typed the Screen Sharing password). That is, upon connecting, you would immediately see and control the remote screen concurrently with the user at that computer. They'll get in each other's way, and the results are unpredictable.Īnother interesting note: Before Mac OS X Lion, the Screen Sharing function worked just like conventional VNC. If you want to connect from a Windows or UNIX/Linux computer or mobile phone running RealVNC Personal or Enterprise, you must install RealVNC server on the Mac to make an encrypted connection.ĭon't try to configure the built-in Mac OS X VNC server at the same time you have RealVNC installed. So, when connecting to a Mac running the built-in VNC server, encryption will only work if you connect from another Mac using its built-in VNC viewer. The built-in VNC server software for the Mac supports integrated encryption, but it's not compatible with RealVNC encryption. To access a Mac from any Windows or UNIX computer, or from a mobile device, you can use one of the RealVNC viewers linked above. Once the VNC server is configured on a Mac, then to connect from a Mac, you can use the Finder to locate the target computer, and connect using the Mac's built-in VNC viewer software. How to enable VNC server on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) How to enable VNC server on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) How to enable VNC server on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) So, after downloading, you have to register your e-mail address to get a license key, even for the Free Edition. All editions of RealVNC (Free, Personal, and Enterprise) are installed from the same download features are unlocked using the appropriate license key. These all support encryption so long as the VNC server running on the target computer supports encryption. RealVNC also offers viewer programs that run on Android-based phones, the Apple iPhone and iPad, and in the Chrome browser (including on a Chromebook). You should therefore only use the Free Edition if you have a separate method of encrypting your connection, especially to connect to a computer in another building or city over the Internet. The paid editions (Personal and Enterprise) both support these features. The latest version runs on Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac computers, and UNIX/Linux.įor all platforms, the Free Edition lacks encryption, window scaling, remote printing, chat, or file transfer. It is published by the inventors of the VNC protocol, based in the U.K. Have not yet gotten a chance to look into why this works, but it seems to solve the problem for the time being.RealVNC is the most venerable and versatile of commonly used VNC software. One workaround is to click the “Pause” button (double red bar) in the active Viewer before closing the connection. Oftentimes after closing the viewer, the Mac would freeze yet again, requiring a reset. The other options appeared to work, but seemed to cause some minor freeze-ups on the Mac. Set the “Preferred Encoding” to either “Raw” or “ZRLE”.Of course, you will not be able to share the clipboard across the host and client machines, but at least the host machine will continue running properly. Enable “Disable clipboard transfer.” This was a major issue that would cause freezing immediately upon on connect unless enabled. The viewer will prompt for a password, but once connected, will not display the actual desktop unless no users are logged in on the host. To prevent receiving a patterned, gray screen after the login, be sure to logout of your current user on your Mac first.I’m using TightVNC, so these changes may or may not be necessary on other viewers. As I mentioned before, I had some issues connecting from Windows, and had to take a few precautions. You should (in theory) be able to connect to your Mac with any viewer using your machine’s IP address and the port. You should now have a VNC server running on the standard port 5900 of your machine. We are disabling the ADC and the brown out detector. We then set the Arduino to sleep forever. Thus, when a LOW signal is received on Pin 2, the interrupt is triggered, and the Arduino should wake up. The neater way to do this would have been attachInterrupt(digitalPinToInterrupt(wakeUpPin), wakeUp, LOW)). Within the loop, we attach the interrupt handler to pin2, ( Interrupt 0 corresponds to pin2. Within the setup, we just set the mode of pin2 to INPUT. #include "LowPower.h"Īn empty handler is used for pin 2 interrupts. We include the LowPower library, and define pin 2 as the interrupt pin. You are encouraged to go through the powerDownWakePeriodic example yourself (it is very straightforward) − Let’s walkthrough the external interrupt example. In one example, we wake up the Arduino using an external interrupt, while in another we use the WatchDog timer to wake up the Arduino. You will find two examples related to PowerDown mode. Once you install this library, go to: File → Examples → Low-Power → Examples. The way to install such libraries has been explained here. It is not available in Library Manager of Arduino IDE. However, as always happens, someone has taken the effort to create a library. Now, you can directly work with the avr/sleep.h library and explore the sleep modes within Arduino. You are encouraged to go through the datasheet of ATmega328P to read up more about the sleep modes. The microcontroller can wake up through this way only when it is the I2C slave, and a master sends address corresponding to this microcontroller to wake it up). The TWI Address match refers to I2C or Wire Address match. The Power down mode is also the most power efficient sleep mode. The Idle mode is easiest to wake up from and the Standby and Power down mode is the most difficult to wake up from (you can only wake up the module from the Standby mode using external interrupts or watchdog timer). While this has already been covered in another article, but for the sake of completeness, here’s a brief on the sleep modes in Arduino.Īrduino’s microcontroller, ATmega328P has 6 sleep modes, of which 5 are available with the avr/sleep.h library.Įach mode has different wake-up modes and different power consumption. GPIO2 is directly connected to the Switch, or to a sensor so it can always read the state of the switch or sensor. The equivalent of deep sleep in Arduino would be the Power Down mode, which consumes the least power out of all the sleep modes. The ESP8266 does what it needs to do and when it is done the program sets GPUIO0 LOW and the chip powers down. Once booted, GPIO0 should be set to HIGH in the software so the CH_PD pin remains HIGH, even when the switch is opening again. When the switch closes, the CH_PD pin as well as GPIO0 and GPIO2 are taken HIGH and the ESP8266 powers up. This is according to an idea by ‘barnabybear’. For this we do not use the regular deep sleep but we will power down the ESP8266 by pulling the CH_PD (=chip power down) pin LOW to Power it down whereas a Switch (or a HIGH output from a sensor) will Power the ESP8266 up and a gpio pin is used to keep it powered up as long as necessary. That is not much but it can be brought down even further to 3uA. In deep sleep the current consumption is about 20uA. You need some way to keep the ESP running til it’s job is finished and this means it needs to maintain power and thus the regular ‘deep sleep’ seems the only option. This concept will not work though if the switch prematurely is deactivated and the ESP8266 has not finished its job yet. This seems ideal for the ESP8266-01 that does not have gpio16 broken out and therefore is hard to use in regular deep sleep. Opening a mailbox or opening/closing a door activates a Switch that connects the Vcc to 3V3 and the ESP8266 boots up and does its thing. A typical example of that is a notifier that mail has been delivered or a door has been opened. The easiest way to save power on an ESP8266 is in fact to switch it OFF when not needed and Switch it ON when needed. Overall, Walker’s fifth solo effort is a perfectly imperfect package with significant potential and just enough expanse to keep things interesting. But, since prog fans are used to being jostled around in musical spontaneity, its divergence isn’t as shocking as perhaps it would’ve been if presented differently. Though Walker’s intentions are clearly very pure, Course in Fable seems to extend itself a little too far at times, getting caught up in frequent genre-switching that makes it a sometimes disorienting listen. The record’s last two tracks-the cryptically named “Pond Scum Ocean” and “Shiva With Dustpan”-close things out underwhelmingly, with the first of the two meandering in dull repetition before eventually finding itself grounded in a comfortably clappy rhythm. On Course In Fable, Walker and his bandmates often sound like a proggy jazz orchestra veering in and out of musical lanes. Later, he continues that trend, evoking shades of Jethro Tull (and, subtly, Genesis) on “A Lenticular Slap,” a song which has lyrics almost as wonderfully confounding as its instrumentation (“Any work release isn’t true / An egghead breaks their mantra and converts to awful”).Ĭourse in Fable only gets more intriguing from there “Axis Bent” features delightfully clean, slippy guitar lines and a fun, galloping chorus while “Clad With Bunk” demonstrates Walker’s ability to be diverse even within the same track, moving smoothly from regal folk to bluesy grunge within seconds. On “Striking Down Your Big Premiere,” Walker blends open riffs with skippy, jazzy passages reminiscent of King Crimson. Of course, his accompanying band-which includes Bill MacKay and Ryan Jewell-and the production and engineering of John McEntire (Tortoise, the Sea and the Cake) also do a great job of supporting yet not overshadowing his outlook. In an age where progressive rock has become stereotypically confined to hyper-snobby circles, Walker’s jazzy and accessible approach to neo-prog is refreshing. Course in Fable is afgezien van collabs het eerste album van Walker in drie jaar en zoals te doen gebruikelijk is het veelzijdig en tot in de puntjes verzorgd. Though it occasionally misses this lofty mark, it works well enough.įrom the moment it begins, Course in Fable is jazzily complex and becomes increasingly more progressive with every song. Geef die man een gitaar en composities veranderen in goud. However, the most serious issue of Ni-based catalyst is easy to sinter and carbon deposit, leading to deactivation of the catalysts. The Ni is relatively cheap and widely used in industrial hydrogen production. However, the high price and scarce resources of noble metal limit its industrial application prospect, while non-noble metals such as Ni, Co, and Fe also show high initial activity (Nagaoka et al., 2003 Guo et al., 2004 Wang et al., 2011 Djinović et al., 2012). ( 2001b) studied the high-pressure reaction performance of Ru/TiO 2 catalyst for DRM reaction and found that the 2%Ru/TiO 2 catalyst showed excellent carbon resistance at 750☌ and 2 MPa pressure. ( 2001a) loaded Pt on ZrO 2 and Al 2O 3, respectively, to study the effect of support on DRM reaction, and results showed that ZrO 2 had better performance and could run for 500 h without loss of activity. Noble metal catalysts such as Pt, Pd, Rh, and Ru have high activity, high stability, and excellent carbon resistance in DRM reaction (Graf et al., 2007 Özkara-Aydinoglu et al., 2009). The DRM reaction catalysts can be classified into noble metal catalysts and non-noble metal catalysts according to the active metal component. In recent years, DRM reaction has made significant progress in industrial applications, but large-scale commercial distribution has yet to address the following issues: catalyst thermal stability and carbon resistance (Bian et al., 2016). In general, syngas can be converted to liquid fuel by Fischer–Tropsch process or removed from CO via pressure swing adsorption (PSA) to obtain high purity hydrogen (99.999%) which can be used in proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) (Miura et al., 2012, 2013 Qiu et al., 2017 Rosli et al., 2017). CH 4 and CO 2 can be catalytic converted to syngas (CO and H 2) by dry reforming of CH 4 (DRM) reaction. Indirect transformation of CH 4 includes steam reforming, CO 2 dry reforming, and partial oxidation, etc. In addition, the complex product composition greatly limits the use of CH 4. However, due to the difficulty of activation of CH 4 molecule, direct conversion is usually conducted under harsh conditions of high temperature, high pressure, and high energy consumption. The simple conversion process has potential theoretical advantages. Direct transformation of CH 4 includes oxidation coupling, chlorination coupling, and direct dehydrogenation (Otsuka et al., 1987 Sun and Klabunde, 1999 Zhang et al., 2015). As the main component of natural gas, there are direct and indirect methods for effective use of methane (CH 4) (Reddy et al., 2013). With the breakthrough of shale gas exploitation technology, the application of natural gas has become a worldwide research hotspot in recent years (Wu et al., 2016 Middleton et al., 2017). The global fossil-energy revolution has begun, with abundant and cheap natural gas accounting for a growing share of the world's energy consumption. On the other hand, coal and oil are non-renewable resources, and the reserves are limited and dwindling. When fossil fuels are used, a large amount of greenhouse gas-CO 2 will be produced, accompanied by the generation of polluted flue gas, leading to increasingly serious environmental pollution (Michael et al., 1993 Gurney et al., 2009). Therefore, the efficient and thermally stable 2 core–shell catalyst has a promising application prospect in DRM reaction and can make a considerable contribution to the sustainable use of energy.Ĭoal and oil are the most important energy consumed in the world fossil fuels accounted for 85% of global energy consumption in 2018. In addition, NiPt NPs had better activity than Ni NPs and Pt NPs because Ni and Pt formed as alloy in NiPt NPs. By characterization, we learned that hollow structure had an inner surface and thus had a larger active specific surface area than NP structure. In contrast to the continuous deactivation of the supported catalyst, all the core–shell catalysts were able to maintain stability for 200 h, and the activity sequence was Hollow-NiPt > NiPt NPs > Pt NPs > Ni NPs. In addition, the activity and stability of core–shell catalysts with different nuclei were tested. Compared with hollow-NiPt/SiO 2 supported catalyst, the 2 core–shell catalyst exhibited better activity and thermal stability in dry reforming of methane (CH 4) (DRM) with CO 2 reaction, with CH 4/CO 2 conversion to 97% and service life to 200 h at 800☌, respectively. A neoteric 2 core–shell structure catalyst with 7-nm-sized hollow NiPt alloy nanoparticle (NP) packaged by SiO 2 shell was prepared by a classic Stober method. |
